On Tour with Zinnia (Angelbound Offspring #3) by Christina Bauer and Meet the Author

I love this series, and here’s the latest in it.

Zinnia (Angelbound Offspring #3) by Christina Bauer released last week in the Fantasy, Young genre.

As the last dragon shifter, I live alone, hiding in one of Earth’s sacred deserts. My human handlers tell me that I have no parents, no name, and no purpose other than to train for battle and one day become a vessel for the reincarnation of Chimera, the greatest dragon shifter of all. Sadly, Chimera’s rebirth will mean my own death. But my handlers say this sacrifice is a noble fate that will rebuild the dragon shifter world.

I shall die on my seventeenth birthday. That’s five days from now.

Then I hear music thumping across the desert. I take my mortal form, follow the sound, and find humans dancing in what they call a rave. There is a stage and a rock band. One thing quickly becomes clear: Unlike the audience, the musicians are dragon shifters, just like me. And one of them, the guitar player Rhodes, makes my knees turn watery. The lead singer, Kaps, has something strangely familiar about her.

It all adds up to one conclusion: My handlers lied to me. I’m not the last of my kind. Memories reappear. I had parents once. Portia and Tempest. I even had a name. Zinnia. Perhaps I have a reason to live as well. I step past the dancing humans to confront the players.

I will find out the full truth, no matter what.

AUTHOR BIO: Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.

Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.

My Heroine’s Worst Trait

By Christina Bauer

As part of the launch tour for my new book, ZINNIA, the lovely Viviana MacKade asked me to write a post on my heroine’s worst trait. Happy to share!

To begin with, it will probably help to give a little background on my take for characters arcs in general … and Zinnia (my heroine) in particular.

Character Arc Stuff

It’s a classic thingy in writing stories to have a character arc: your protagonist starts out in one place emotionally and then goes somewhere else. The arc is often based on a tragic flaw about your character that he or she must overcome.

Me Stuff

I write kick-ass heroines and one of the things I wanted to play around story-wise was a leading lady who didn’t question herself. I feel like, as chicks, we are constantly barraged with messages that we’re flawed. How we look. What we say (or don’t say.) Did we ask for fill in the blank to happen to us? You get the idea.

Which brings me to the heroine of this novel…

Zinnia Stuff

For Zinnia, I wanted to write about someone who stuck to her moral compass from a young age, no matter what. And in this book, Zinnia has some tough shit get tossed at her. It’s a little like the Book of Job for those of you who know Bible stuff … only there’s a happy ending here for Zinnia (which didn’t exactly happen to Job!)

Overall, I love this question because it really makes me think about why I chose such an unusual arc for Zinnia. The world may change around her, but Zinnia always stays true to herself. And in the end, that’s a story (I hope) we can all relate to!

So that’s it…my take on Zinnia’s flaws. Hope you found this interesting! Thanks for having me stop by and I hope to visit on a future book tour!
