Thanks for having me today!

Lots of people ask me where I find inspiration for my books. I get ideas from many different sources but mostly from other forms of art- music, poetry, books, and film. A good, heart-wrenching song gets my heart in the right place to plot and write. Lately, I’ve been listening to Lord Huron—such great music AND lyrics. Their songs are these epic tales of love. “She lit a fire and now she’s in my every thought.” “She lives to see the sun and feel the wind and drink the rain.” “I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you. Oh take me back to the night we met.”

The inspiration for my Yoga in the City series came from my love of yoga. I began studying yoga and meditation over 20 years ago. I lived at a yoga center in New England, became a certified teacher, then continued to study and apprentice for years with a master teacher in Boulder, Colorado. Yoga and writing are my two loves (other than my family) and I wanted to bring them together with these books. It’s been really rewarding for me. The Yoga in the City series follows the lives of four girlfriends who own a yoga studio together in Boulder. Obviously, my experience has inspired the books and the characters, but I honestly can’t think of one real person or event that has been translated into the stories. They are definitely fictional.

BREATHLESS was always about Hannah, who doesn’t quite fit into the yoga world. She was always a clear character for me. The yoga world is pretty well defined, in some respects. It has its own set of rules and expectations and a clear value system. I really wanted to write about a woman who loves yoga, and has made a life around it, but who also doesn’t fit into the yoga world. Hopefully readers can relate to her. I know I can!

And Jake, he was a hero inspired by my love of a good hero ;-). It took me a while to really get his character down, but I totally fell in love with him.
