On Tour with Mystic Maple (Deerbourne Inn Series) by Tena Stetler and Meet the Author

I love all the stories set at the Deerbourne Inn!

Mystic Maple (Deerbourne Inn Series) by Tena Stetler released in May in the Paranormal Romance genre.

Earth/Fire witch Mercy Rose’s insatiable curiosity always gets her in trouble. After a break-in at her Colorado flower shop, and a court battle that comes to a screeching halt in her favor, she arrives at Deerbourne Inn for a much-needed getaway. Looking for peace and quiet, she finds just the opposite in a startling handsome but mysterious man and his dog.

Silvanus Forrest’s gypsy/fae heritage is a double-edged sword. The land he inherited from his parents is rumored to be enchanted. But when Mercy discovers the truth, his well-ordered life unravels, and they’re catapulted into the past to right a wrong. Along the way their lives intertwine, and they discover the true meaning of family and love. Will they change the past in time to save their future?

With her shoulders squared and a bounce in her step, she headed for Mystic Maples. Standing at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the wrap-around, partially screened in porch, the two-story log cabin looked as formidable as its owner seemed at this moment. At the front door, her hand raised to knock, she lost her nerve and took three steps back, turned on her heel preparing to sprint down the steps when a dog barked, and the door whooshed open.

Oh, no—breathe, Mercy, just breathe. “Good mmorning Mr. Silvanus.” She stammered. She’d forgotten his last name—wait—did she know his last name?

Eyes widened in surprise, he quickly schooled his features into a pleasant expression before commanding Raga to stay with a hand signal. “Good morning. Can I help you?” A beguiling smile curved the corners of his mouth and his eyebrow winged up. “Weren’t you my late-night visitor?” His eyes twinkled with mischief before he sent her a quick wink.

Wow, well trained dog. Feeling more at ease, but she could tell he wasn’t going to let her off easy—if at all. “Yes, I guess I was. I’m sorry to have trespassed on your property. I meant no harm.” She blew out a breath. “I’m staying at the Deerbourne Inn. But my reservations got mixed up and instead of being for six months as planned, the reservation was for two weeks. Then Nate talked to you and indicated you had a cottage to rent?”

He stared at her, the calm, blue aura was back. “And your name is?”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Tena Stetler is a best-selling author of award winning paranormal romance. She has an over-active imagination, which led to writing her first vampire romance as a tween to the chagrin of her mother and delight of her friends. After many years as a paralegal, then an IT Manager, she decided to live out her dream of pursuing a publishing career.

With the Rocky Mountains outside her window, she sits at her computer surrounded by a wide array of witches, shapeshifters, demons, faeries, and gryphons, with a Navy SEAL or two mixed in telling their tales. Her books tell stories of magical kick-ass women and mystical alpha males that dare to love them. Travel, adventure and a bit of mystery flourish in her books along with a few companion animals to round out the tales.

Colorado is home; shared with her husband of many moons, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-five-year-old box turtle. When she’s not writing, her time is spent kayaking, camping, hiking, biking  or just relaxing in the great Colorado outdoors. During the winter you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.

Hi Tena, and thank you for being her today!

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

I was inside a flower shop looking around at all the unique blooming plants and I wondered what would happen if you crossed different flowers? Would bio luminous transfer to the plant world? And Mystic Maples character Mercy Rose was born. Gypsy lore had always intrigued me so added, Silvanus Forrest,  a gypsy/fae character to the mix and Mystic Maples became a reality.

What sort of research did you do to write this book?

I had to research how and when maple syrup is made from the sap of the sugar maple trees.

What is the main thing you want readers to take away from the story?

To leave their ordinary world behind and be swept into a romantic fantasy adventure for a few hours.

Did you always have the reins of the story or the people in it tried to take over?

My character always high jack smy books. I start out in one direction and they change it all around by the end of the book.

What are you working on now?

The third book in A Witch’s Journey series; and a three book cozy mystery series.

Do you have a day job?

Not anymore.

What was your job before you started writing full time?

I was a paralegal for several years then an IT manager for an electrical contracting firm.

What started you on the path to writing?

I’ve written since I was able to put pencil to paper. But when I was downsized from my job in 2014, my hubby and I decided it was time to follow my dream of being a published author. In November in 2014, I received my first contract.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

First I feed the companion animals, get my hubby off to work then sit down and write for a few hours, break for lunch then write until 4 p.m. when I take my parrot out in the sunroom and read recreationally.

What do your friend and family think about your being a writer?

My family and friends are very supportive. They enjoy reading all of my books so far. LOL

The biggest surprise you had after becoming a writer.

How difficult  and time consuming promotion and marketing are.

Do you outline books ahead of time or are you more of a by-the-seat-of-your-pants writer?

Try as I might, I can’t plot my way out of a paper bag. I’m a panster through and through.

How long does it take to write a story?

Three to six months.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Camping, hiking in the mountains, going for a long walk with my dog and kayaking.

What are your top three favorite books of all time?

How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf (Molly Harper), A Discovery of Witches (Deborah Harkness),  Troublemaker (Linda Howard)
