Sea Magic (Hidden Gems Book 1) by Heidi McIntyre releases today in the Historical, Magical Realism, Women’s Fiction genre.
When a reluctant psychic tracks a ghost through the mists of time, the treasure she discovers is worth more than gold.
She knows everyone in this seaside, New England town of Penbrook, and everyone knows her—Madeline Hunter, the shy, quiet antique shop owner who whose idea of a hot date is snuggling up with a good book and her cat, Poe.
But she keeps one thing under her vintage hat—her ability to touch an object and connect with its history. Her new-age aunt says she should embrace her “gift”, but she’d rather pretend it doesn’t exist.
After buying an old box at an estate sale filled with rare items, Madeline started having dreams—startlingly vivid dreams about Maria, a young headstrong Puritan whose “knowing” could get her branded as a witch, and whose forbidden love for a poor sailor caused a scandal.
Together with Evan, an attractive history professor who tempts her to believe in love, she uncovers Maria’s story, helpless to stop its trajectory toward tragedy. She may not be able to change the course of history, but with Evan’s support, maybe she can lay the ghosts of the past to rest—including her own.
Filled with the magical allure of the sea, endearing characters and a mystical journey, this debut novel explores the depths of love, loss, and transformation.

“Hi,” a deep male voice said from behind me. I whipped my head around, annoyed at being hit on by a stranger and found myself staring into eyes so green the color reminded me of those vintage glass marbles, the kind I played with as a child. He was tall, at least six feet, with light brown hair cropped close at the sides and a bit rumpled on top. For some odd reason, I felt a sudden urge to shape it with my fingers.
His grin accentuated a boyish dimple. The alarm bells in my head subsided.
“This is going to sound odd, but I’ve been waiting here for at least twenty minutes to get a drink and I see you’re having much better luck,” he said with a
hint of a smile on his lips. “If I give you my order, can you please wave down the bartender?”
I had to admit, this was a clever approach. I opened my mouth to speak but found myself at a loss for words, which was unusual.
He lifted his hands in surrender. “I swear this is not a pickup line. My buddy Chad over there is the bass player.” He sounded sincere while he pointed to his friend in the red flannel shirt who was strumming his guitar. “I promised to come hear him play,
so right now the only thing I’m aiming for is a beer. That’s all.”
I studied him for a moment. His body was lean, well-toned, like an athlete, and he wore a navy sweater over a burgundy buttoned-down shirt. When I finally spoke, I stuttered. “S-s-sure, why not?” Awkward. What the hell is wrong with me? I’ve
always prided myself on being self-assured, confident in any situation, not flustered like this.
“Thanks, I appreciate it.” He leaned forward to whisper in my ear, “I’ll have a Heineken, and let me buy you a drink.” The low drawl in his voice tickled, and the very pleasing masculine scent of his cologne made me feel lightheaded.
Oh no.
“No. I mean, that’s not necessary. I’ll be nursing this drink for a while.” I took a deep breath, trying to regain my sense of control. Snap out of it.
“Dr. Thompson?” Chelsea called out with a surprised expression on her face as she rounded the corner. “Oh my God, I thought it was you.”
