Fate in Suspension (Horn & Haven, #1) by Archer Kay Leah released in June in the Adult, Fantasy, LGBTQ+, Paranormal, Romance genre.
Quiet. That’s how he likes life, no drama to clean up…
Tai Xen-Vorsy leads a straightforward life: work, time at the local clubs where shapeshifters like him can play without fear, and the comforts of home with a cat that’s more than half attitude. After breaking up with his last submissive, he’s even taking a break from Dom duties.
Meeting Gates changes everything, and when Tai’s childhood home is destroyed, his simple life goes up in flames.
The Callensdale haven was his refuge as an orphan, a hideaway that saved his life. Now it’s time to return the favour. Bringing in the Fluff Brigade Brotherhood would make all the difference… if he could just get them back together. Tai won’t give up—he’s not that kind of unicorn. But can he reunite the brotherhood and keep his new relationship with Gates kindled at the same time?
The darkness is dragging him into the shadows, one case at a time…
Helping others is all Gates Colfaethe wants to do, being mostly unicorn shifter with a splash of Faerie. But years as an agent on trafficking cases leave him fearing just how far he’ll lose himself in the job before he burns out completely.
A random hookup with Tai might be the very change he needs. A new Dom means new rules and the chance to create safe distance from work—until his worlds collide in a twist Gates should leave well enough alone. What he knows is bad enough, but running headlong into danger could kill him.
Horn & Haven is an MM+ romance series featuring a found family of unicorn shifters brought together by tragic circumstances. Friends out to save a magical world in trouble. Family fighting to protect those they love. Lovers falling for the kinkiest unicorns this side of their universe… Welcome to the Fluff Brigade Brotherhood.

AUTHOR BIO:
Archer Kay Leah is an LGTBQA+ romance author that you’ll often find getting lost in strange, fantastical worlds with characters who can’t help but find trouble and shake things up. Fantasy and sci-fi romances are Archer’s speciality, especially when they’re complex and emotionally charged. But at the heart of Archer’s stories are friendship, family, and there’s always a happy ending–it might just take a whole lot of complications to get there!
When not reading and writing for work or play, Archer is a nerd of much geekery, loves music to depths that will never be contained, and is fascinated by behaviour, psychology, and ecology. Born and raised in Canada, Archer lives in London, Ontario with a non-binary partner who loves all things out there in the vast space of the universe.
Hi there, everyone! I’m Archer Kay Leah, author of LGBTQA+ romances and avid lover of getting lost in strange worlds, especially when they’re big, complicated, and fantastical. My heartfelt thanks to Viviana for hosting me today, and to all of you for joining us!
Fate in Suspension is the very first book in my new paranormal/fantasy romance series, Horn & Haven, and it really sets the tone for what’s coming in the rest of the books. Today’s post is all about the series as a whole!
So Horn & Haven… Well, the first thing that comes to mind is how it started with unicorn cake and ice cream, but that was just the first breath for the series. Since that burst of inspiration, the series has grown into something much bigger and more detailed. It’s now blossomed into series that follows a group of unicorn shifters in a fantastical world that’s very much like our own, but it isn’t our world at all. This group of unicorn shifters is called the Fluff Brigade Brotherhood, and they have a huge disaster to deal with now that their childhood home has been attacked and destroyed. They’re angry, they’re hurting, and now they’re on the hunt for whoever’s responsible. These aren’t your average unicorns, and they’re MAD MAD MAD, meaning someone’s going to meet with a whole heap of trouble by the end!
But what’s Horn & Haven about? That’s easy: family, friendship, and all the types of love and care that touch us in life… and what we’re willing to do to protect them and fight to keep them. The series is about connection, and about really living life despite the shadows of loss and grief that hang around. Because as much as memories ground us in who we are, and as much as we experience the good with the bad, there’s that little light in life that wants to keep trying to stick around and push for more.
All of this is at the heart of the series, and over the course of the books, readers will see the stories of the various characters unfold. The Brotherhood is comprised of 10 members, including Tai and his cousin, Molly Rey, who are introduced in book 1. For the most part, the brotherhood isn’t related by blood—they’re a case of found family. More specifically, they’re a family of orphans that met and bonded together at this very special, magical place called the Callensdale haven, which takes in shifters and magical beings that need a safe place to live. It’s a place of compassion, of kindness, so when it’s destroyed, that absolutely guts everyone who knows about it –and the Brotherhood certainly feels its death heavily. For them, the haven saved their lives after they lost everything as children, so there’s a lot of feelings going on! They’re absolutely driven to find out who took that part of them away. As kids, they couldn’t do anything about the family and homes they lost, but as adults, they have skills, talents, and knowledge they can use to find the answers. And considering that some of the members of the group are trained in fighting and weaponry, they have the means to do their own damage.
But this is also a romance series, so each book centres around a romantic relationship. Book 1 is about Tai and Gates, but the rest of the books will follow the other members of the brotherhood and what happens when they end up falling in love during such a chaotic time. Also, for some of the members of the brotherhood, there’s a BDSM component to their stories, adding to how much they need to balance all of these connections and cares at the same time. It’s not going to be easy!
So that in a nutshell is Horn & Haven: a found family out to avenge the destruction of their childhood home. They carry the burden of memories and grief, but they learned a long time ago that sharing those burdens makes all the difference. Along the way, they fall in love, make new memories, and are reminded of just how much they’ve fought for life and happiness this long—and how much they’re still willing to fight for them. What started as a way to feel like they belonged together will be what saves them and who they love most. ❤
Thank you so much for reading, folks, and I hope you enjoyed the post! I love hearing from readers, so feel free to share your thoughts, questions, and musings. And thanks again to Viviana for having me here!
