Travel Near and Far
by Luanna Stewart
Back when I signed up to write this guest blog post, I chose the title “Travel – near and far”. At the time, I had many exciting travel plans in the works. Visiting friends in Toronto and Montreal. Visiting friends and family in Maine, Iowa, and Wisconsin. And further afield, returning to the UK to spend time with friends in Cornwall followed by a self-guided tour of a few areas of Scotland.
By now, in a perfect world, I would have made all those North American trips and would be able to regale you with funny stories and share a few pictures. And I’d be in the final countdown to departure to the land of my forefathers (Scotland) and would share my excitement about all I’d discover and experience.
But then…well, you know what happened. Slowly but inexorably any hope of leaving the country faded away and I was resigned to sticking close to home in Nova Scotia.
Thank goodness we had the summer to look forward to. We got our baby chicks…

watched them grow into beautiful hens…

and one of them has started to lay (egg #3 as of this writing).

We put in our vegetable garden – a bit late because…good luck finding seeds! But we’ve had a better-than-expected harvest given everything…

…can I interest you in a zucchini?
We couldn’t travel far but we did manage some local excursions once the lockdown was lifted. We’re lucky to live right on the ocean and our kayaks are but a few steps away. A couple hours spent paddling improves even the grumpiest mood.

Beautiful beaches are around every corner and with the borders closed (internationally and within the country), much, much less crowded. (Not that they are ever crowded by most standards.) Even on a cool, foggy day, Hirtle’s Beach near Kingsburg is a treasure.

For a weekend away, we travelled to the other side of Nova Scotia to stay with my mum at her summerhouse in Tiverton, a short ferry ride from the mainland.

After a day of gardening or exploring, there’s nothing better than relaxing on the deck while the sun sets, listening to the birds getting ready for their slumbers.

I’m sad that I couldn’t explore more of the world as planned, but I’m thankful that I live in a beautiful part of the country that I can enjoy, whether right outside my door or a short car ride away.

And she’s bringing along a beautiful tale. If I Didn’t Care: MacLeod’s Cove Book 1 (MacLeod’s Cove Romance) released in November in the contemporary genre.
Guess who’s moving in next door? Nicole Bennett is used to bad luck—it’s kind of a family curse. She’s spent the past year stitching her life back together after losing her dream job. Well, it paid the rent. Now stuck working at her family’s grocery store while wrangling a demoralized dad and a spoiled-brat sister, the last thing she needs is for the man who wrecked her life to move in next door, even if it is for only three weeks. So what if he’s sexier than sin and makes her believe in fairy tale endings?
Ross Calvert’s life in the fast lane crashed when he lost his job and fiancée. All he’s got to show for years of hard work are a sleek sports car and a closet full of designer suits – minus the closet. Determined to salvage his relationship with his best friend, he trades in the corporate life for a brief stint as a caregiver. The decision was simple—until he discovers the tempting vixen he wronged lives next door. Maybe she’s what he needs to reboot his life.
What starts off as a no-strings fling soon veers into making promises that might be impossible to keep.
If you enjoy steamy, small town romance with laughter and snappy dialogue, don’t miss the first book in this exciting new series.
