New Release: Lace and Lies (Brooklyn Brothers, #1) by Melanie Munton

For some reason I can’t grasp, I can’t like this hero 100%. So here’s the reason to read this book, and see what’s what.

Lace and Lies (Brooklyn Brothers, #1) by Melanie Munton released in Tuesday in the Adult, Contemporary, Romance genre.

We are the Rossetti’s.
The exiled “sixth family” of the New York mafia. We’re the good guys.
People don’t fear us…much. They respect us.
The five of us? We’re the Brooklyn Brothers.
And we protect what’s ours.

Jasmine Kingston should run from me. I mean, she should literally pick up her dress, toss away her heels, and haul ass in the complete opposite direction. Because for the last few months that she’s been in New York and taking the fashion world by storm, I’ve been watching her. From my ivory tower, from the shadows. Wherever she’s been, I’ve been only feet away, and she hasn’t even realized it.

Until now.

I can’t stay away and watch one more man take his shot with her. She needs to know what she’s doing to me. Especially since things are heating up with my family’s enemies. I just pray those enemies don’t discover my only weakness.
Maybe it was the wrong way to go. Maybe I should never have touched her. Never treated myself to her addictive taste. But I can’t alleviate this obsession I have with her any more than I can put a bullet between my own eyes.

She’s mine to protect now.
I’ll burn my entire fortune to the ground and take ten of those bullets before I let anything happen to her.

I just hope she doesn’t find out what I’ve done.

Jasmine

I was still trying to decide if I wanted to head to the bar for another drink, take an unnecessary bathroom break, or grab a bit of fresh air outside when a strong hand grabbed my arm and jerked me around.

Oh, this drunk asshole is barking up the wrong tree tonight.

“Hey, buddy—”

Not your buddy.”

I craned my neck to find two fiery green eyes shooting daggers at me. “Cris? What are you doing here? How did you even know where I was?”

His lips firmed. “Apparently, you don’t realize how much of your life is documented on social media.”

I reared my head back. “What are you talking about?”

He still hadn’t let go of my arm. “Your posse likes to tweet about every bar and club you guys ‘hit up.’ This day and age, it’s not that hard to track someone down.”

“What, are you keeping tabs on me?”

The question didn’t help soften his ferocious expression.

“And what’s your problem, anyway? So, I’m at a club. Big deal.”

Maintaining his grip on my arm with one hand, he pulled his phone out with the other. He flipped the screen around and showed me the picture taken of Marcus and I earlier at my show. For crying out loud, the media outlet that photographer was with had tweeted the picture with the caption, “Is Marcus Babbett finally settling down with New York’s newest fashion darling?” They’d even used the hashtag #MenofJasmineKing.

Seriously with this?

He is my problem. Are you fucking him?”

My gaze collided with his. “No! I told you. Marcus and I weren’t anything. And whatever we were was done a long time ago. Besides, he lives in Atlanta!”

Cris’s nostrils flared. “What was he doing here, then? At your show? A show that, by the way, you didn’t even invite me to.”

Huh? He’d wanted to go to my show?

Had to admit, I didn’t expect that.

“He was up here shooting a commercial. He just came by to say hi because we’re old friends and we haven’t seen each other in a while.” I had no idea why, but I started poking him in the chest to punctuate my words, as if that would make them more impactful. Or you’re just being a child. “And I didn’t invite you to my show because I didn’t think you’d want to come. We’ve hardly spoken for the past week, Cris. I didn’t even know you were back in town!”

“Are you seeing him again while he’s in town?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Not that it’s any of your business because it’s really not, but no, I’m not. He’s flying back out tomorrow.

He grinned wryly. “Oh, it very much is my business, Jasmine. What you do with men you’ve previously fucked is absolutely my business.”

Now, it should be understood that I wasn’t a woman who liked to play games with men. And I sure as hell wasn’t the kind of woman to play men off of each other. But I couldn’t deny that seeing Cris all irate and jealous like that pleased me on an unholy level. The way his eyes burned through me was both maddening and delicious.

It was completely unfair how anger made him even hotter.

I raised an eyebrow in challenge. “Why? You and I haven’t fucked. Remember? So, why should it matter?”

His hand flew to the back of my neck, holding me in place as he spoke in a low, harsh voice. “Maybe I haven’t made myself very clear here. I don’t share. As long as you and I are involved—in any capacity—no other men are allowed to come near you, let alone touch you. Do you understand me, Jasmine? If you’re fucking me, then you’re fucking only me.”

Was I messed up in the head to be super turned on by all that caveman possessiveness? Like, stupid turned on. His presumptuous, domineering attitude shouldn’t do it for me. It shouldn’t send heat coursing through me and throw all my sexual urges into overdrive. It shouldn’t make me want to rip every stitch of clothing off his body and beg him to fuck me right here in the middle of the club.

I met his glare with my own. “Again, you and I aren’t fucking yet.”

Something that looked like a mix between excitement, wicked intention, and deep, heady lust glinted in his eyes.

“No, we’re not.” His voice sounded like he’d swallowed sandpaper. “And since you seem to be such a stickler for details, let’s just take care of that technicality right now.”
