Hi C.R., and thank you for being here today.
Can you tell us how you become an author?
Back in 6th grade I checked out a book from the school library that changed my life. Up until that point, I wasn’t a big fan or reading or anything like that. But on a whim, I checked out, The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore and devoured it. After that book I became a real fan of fantasy novels and especially anything set in the Forgotten Realms. The more I read, the more interested I became in writing. I think it was less than a year later I decided I wanted to be an author and create stories for people. My tastes in books evolved from fantasy to horror, so when I write, it turns in to dark fantasy mainly.
Can you tell us something really interesting that’s happened to you?
This happened probably over 12 years ago back when I was in the military. I was working late one night and was the last one in our building. We had to secure our facility before leaving, alarming it, but before doing that we had to go make sure the doors were closed and everyone was gone. So I was doing my final security checks and the way I would check to see if doors were secured, was I would bang one them with my fist. That way, if they were still unlatched they would swing open. I was making my way through the operations floor and I hit my fist against one of the offices. I took two steps and a knock came from inside the door! I knew at this point that everyone was gone. I didn’t open the door because I’d seen too many horror movies. I just finished my checks and locked up the building. I didn’t like working there at night, because there were always weird noises and sounds coming from the halls. We had lots of electronic equipment so it could have just been heavy EMF messing with me, but it still gave me the jitters.
What inspired you to write the book?
This collection is unique to me because each of the stories contained within were previously published in various anthologies. As I started to regain my rights back for the stories, I decided it would be neat to offer them all in one place. I’m proud of it in the fact that it showcases my journey as a writer, from my first published story to some of my more recent publications. It hasn’t ended with this book either, I’m getting ready to publish Volume Two in the next few months.
How did you come up with the name of the book?
A lot of my stories are connected in some way or another, all leading back to my Dark Tyrant Series (book three releasing soon). In that series, the events are kicked off by a supernatural storm. Therefore, I figured these tales were born from that storm and are all part of the same world. Now, some are directly related, while others, the connection is subtle. I’ve always wondered if readers would be able to pick up on the connections or not.
