A cool thriller to jazz up things.
Dawn of the Assassin by Bill Brewer released yesterday in the Action/ Adventure/ Thriller genre.
Dawn of the Assassin is an action/adventure thriller in which David Diegert, a young man of mixed race from a dysfunctional family, is coerced into becoming a hitman for an immensely wealthy, powerful man.
Thrust into violent situations, he surprises everyone, including himself, with how deadly he can be. After successfully completing trial missions, Diegert is selected for an advanced training program. The fate of the one person he loves, the reputation of his trainer and his own life depend on his ability to prevail in the final challenge of the program, the tournament of assassins.
With fast-paced writing, immersive action scenes, and surprises for Diegert around every corner, Dawn of the Assassin, is sure to keep thriller fans turning the pages.
In the afternoon quiet, Diegert was concentrating while sailing the Sue Ellen. He paused for a moment, feeling a shift in the wind.
“Hey, did you feel that?”
Smiling, Barney replied, “Good for you, a shift from the east, and it’s now coming offshore. Trim the sheets and I’ll bring the boom around.”
Diegert pulled on the main sail’s sheets while Barney used the tiller to change the boat’s angle. They ducked as the boom passed overhead to the portside of the vessel.
“We’re secure,” said the ship’s captain.
As they sat on deck working the sails and enjoying the speed of the boat Diegert asked, “Who was Sue Ellen?”
“Sue Ellen? We all have a Sue Ellen,” began Barney. “The girl you fell in love with but only you knew. Or maybe some others knew, but she didn’t, and if she did, she never let you know she knew.”
“Was this a real girl?”
“She’s as real as love and as thrilling as lust. She’s the delight of attraction and the disappointment of unrequited advances. She’s the reason your heart took flight and the reason your heart is broken.”
Barney’s semi-poetic words struck Diegert as maudlin. “I don’t have a Sue Ellen.”
“If you don’t, I worry about ya and I feel sorry for ya, but I can’t say I admire ya.”
“So you named your boat after a disappointing girl who broke your heart?”
“No, I named her after youth, beauty, hope, and the heart-pounding excitement of loving someone special.”
Diegert held his gaze upon Barney as if he were looking at an oddity in the zoo. “Weird.”
“I certainly hope you don’t grow old without having a Sue Ellen in your life.”
The sudden realization that he might one day be as alone and lonely as Barney hit Diegert hard. Nevertheless, he replied with, “Whatever.”

Dear Thriller Fan,
I too am a fan of captivating action/adventure stories. Being a lifelong writer, I wanted to create a character upon whom I could build a series of stories that captured the excitement, tension and intrigue, which makes thrillers so much fun to read. David Diegert is that guy. He’s a regular young man from a lower socio-economic setting, and is therefore susceptible to being manipulated by people who offer him money if he does what they want. At first this seems OK, but it quickly escalates and he finds himself trapped in a dangerous situation. To escape, he kills two guys and takes off running. Shocked at what he’s done, he realizes he must vacate the United States and finds a way to do so. In Europe he is forced to kill again, he realizes his actions have made him vulnerable, but also valuable. Eventually the extent of the organization for whom he is working is revealed to him, and he recognizes that, Crepusculous is much bigger than he ever imagined. He cannot escape them and he enters a training program they operate for elite assassins. The assassin training program challenges David on many levels but he succeeds better than he ever expected. The training concludes in a tournament of assassins in which the best operator survives. The outcome of the tournament is the conclusion of this story.
Weaved into the story is a subplot in which Diegert is trying to help his mother with a huge financial problem. He loves his mom, and he’ll, do anything to help and protect her. Being paid to kill, Diegert earns more than he ever imagined. He helps her, but things don’t turn out the way he intended.
Crepusculous, means dawn and dusk, in the shadows, there but not easily seen. It’s an organization of the world’s most elite wealthy men, each one a multibillionaire. They are hidden from the public because they own everything, including the media. They operate above the law, guided by the simple principle, “That which is unseen is the most powerful.” I created this entity to represent a force of evil in my story, but in fact the members of Crepusculous do not see themselves as evil, rather they feel they are doing necessary and important work to keep the global economy flourishing. Assassins are just a small fraction of their concerns, but they want the ability to deal with threats as soon as they are identified. Stopping trouble before it escalates through instigating covert sanctions. David Diegert may possibly be their most lethal asset.
I hope readers are engaged by the action, adventure, intrigue and frighteningly plausible future presented in Dawn of the Assassin. It’s entertainment designed like a written roller coaster ride, it’s an action movie on paper with the extra depth a novel provides. Give it a try and enjoy the story.
Sincerely, your humble author
