Excerpt Tour with Gone (Aspen Lake Series Book 3) by Karyn Good.

It’s been a while since I had a romantic suspense, so here we go.

The book is Gone (Aspen Lake Series Book 3) by Karyn Good released Monday in the Romantic Suspense genre.

Ever since a devastating family tragedy seventeen years ago, Grace Bighill has struggled to keep her remaining family from falling apart. Then the discovery of her mother’s body in the woods unearths a connection to a decades old murder case, and Grace is dragged into a politician’s bitter bid for revenge.

Constable Mike Davenport’s days in Aspen Lake are numbered. He’s ready to take his next step up the career ladder somewhere a lot more cosmopolitan. He’s avoided any emotional attachments, despite having fallen hard for a certain stubborn local. But when a body turns up, Mike’s careful intentions collapse in the face of Grace’s grief and her exhaustive efforts to care for her family.

A search for answers leads Grace and Mike down a twisted path proving no one can escape their roots. But someone might die trying.

Mike was done. “Go home.”

Walker crossed his arms. “As soon as I collect Grace. I gave her a lift into work, and I’m taking her home.”

The day Mike let this man get the best of him was the day he rethought his career path. “I’ll make sure she gets home safely. You’re free to go and pick up your son.”

Walker yanked a ball cap from his back pocket. “I don’t need you to tell me how to take care of my family.”

“Except you didn’t take such great care of his wife, so I’m not sure why I should believe you about Grace.” It was a low blow, and they both knew it.

“Go to hell, Davenport.” Walker moved to swing around him.

Mike grabbed Walker’s arm. He didn’t raise his voice. Didn’t need to. He’d been raised to remind others of their lower status and there was enough of that man left in him to want to put Walker in his place. “I’m not telling you again. Go home, Scott.”

Walker wasn’t getting near Grace. She deserved one night to recover in peace. Walker yanked his arm free and opened his mouth.

“Be very careful of what you say next.” Mike blocked Walker’s path and waited. He couldn’t decide whether he was relieved or disappointed when Walker managed to remain silent. “You’ve got five seconds to make your way out the door.”

Walker gave Mike a hard, scathing look. “I’ll be checking in with her tomorrow.”

Mike stepped back knowing he’d given too much away. “You do that.”

“You do anything to make this night worse for her, you and me are gonna have words.”

Parting shot delivered, Walker headed for the door. He stopped to accept a couple of backslapping congratulations from a small group who had volunteered to stick around and help Wayne clean up. Then he was out the door and gone.

Mike shook his head. He had a decent enough relationship with the people of Aspen Lake and the surrounding area. For the most part, they were good folks. But he wasn’t one of them and never would be, not in the way Chase was having grown up here. Or even their friend, Seth Stone, who had taken to small town life like he’d been born to it. Mike had no desire to stay. The opposite, in fact. He wanted a city, restaurants, cinema, and anonymity in his off time.

    • Hi Kim! There were a lot of things that drew me to writing this series, but I think my favourite reason was a chance to write about a fictional setting based on a real-life place and the spot I met my husband!
