On Tour with The Wiccan Way Series by Nicole Coverdale and Meet the Author

I loved the TV series Charmed when I was young, and this series promises to have the same vibes.

The Series is The Wiccan Way by Nicole Coverdale, a Paranormal Urban Fantasy.

For as long as the earth has been afloat, demons, witches, Gods, and angels have walked among us. Unknown to the human world, and now the time has come for four sisters to embrace a destiny…

Destiny Awaits~ The Wiccan Way Book 1

Josslyn, Jade, and Julie Morgan never imagined magic was real. That is until they visited their grandmother’s grave. Now a journal their deceased mother left for them, a symbol they all know too well, and an earthquake in Minnesota has them all believing in the impossible…

They’re witches. Good witches, destined to keep the human world safe from the demonic forces that plague mankind, and now they have powers. Magical powers. Josslyn can freeze time, Jade can control electrical forces, and Julie can see the future. But, another surprise awaits them. Jasmine Nichols, a young woman who looks the spitting image of their mother. She’s their sister, and she can move things with her mind.

Adjusting to their new life as witches, coming to grips with the fact they have another sister, and to control their newfound powers the sisters find themselves on a trip to the past to get answers. But as they search for answers… an even greater threat is coming. The demonic world now knows about them, and they want one thing. Their powers.

Once Upon a Hallow’s Eve ~ The Wiccan Way Book 2

But as Halloween rolls up, they all know one thing. They want to have a good time!
Little do they know an evil witch is threatening to ruin their four-month hiatus from the demonic world. Sucking them each into a different fairytale. Fairytales, whose endings have been altered. Now it’s up to Josslyn, Jade, Julie, and Jasmine to right the fairytales before happy endings cease to exist.

Black angels have taken over the heavens and they want one thing—Jasmine and Sky dead.

But the heavens have a silver lining. A psychic, who is tasked with helping Jade find the answers to the questions she seeks by taking her on a journey to her past, present, and future. What she sees changes everything, but time is running out. For she can only focus on one thing… the threat to the future.

For down on earth, something has gone terribly wrong. For the underworld has risen to the surface and one sister has turned to the dark side.

Chatting with the Author

Born and raised in the Midwest, Nicole Coverdale writes in several different genres: Mystery, suspense, romance, fantasy, and the paranormal. She is the writer of the urban fantasy series, Wiccan Way, set in St. Paul, MN, about four sisters who find out they are witches, and while adapting to their newfound powers, uncover hidden family secrets none of them knew existed. She is also the author of the Randolph Saga, which follows Elena Rodriquez’s family, as they are targeted by a rogue organization that wants to ruin Elena and everything she holds dear.

With several books already mapped out, Nicole spends most of her days on the computer, letting the words flow, but when she’s not writing she loves to shop, binge on Netflix or Hulu, cook, bake, and in the fall loves nothing more than a good football game. Go Pack Go!

Nicole came by and we had a very nice chat.

What inspired you to write this book?

I always loved magic, and I love writing about families. I was always in love with the supernatural, watching shows like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I wanted to write something that was new, exciting, and fresh to me. Before this story, I had only written thriller/mysteries and I wanted something new. Something challenging, and boy, did I get it!

What can we expect from you in the future?

I currently have a total of 13 books planned for my Wiccan series, and I’m sure more will follow. I have so many ideas! There’s so many characters I have yet to bring to life, that I have tucked in the back of my mind, and I want to touch on some history in them as well. Maybe bring some old legends/folklores to life in my stories.

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?

Aside from what I will cover in the books, no, not at the moment.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Wiccan Way series?

In Destiny Awaits, the first book in my Wiccan series, we meet the Morgan sisters. Josslyn is the oldest. She’s always been the wild child, the unpredictable one. Growing up, she was irresponsible, and after a tragedy that struck the Morgan family, she left home. Only, after being kicked out of her third college did she finally come up with the courage to return home and confront her two sisters, who she’d abandoned. She’s been given the magical power of water manipulation.

Jade is the second oldest, the responsible one. She prides herself on thinking things through, and she’s a worrier! She worried about everyone, everything, and feels responsible for everything that goes wrong in her sister’s lives. She’s been gifted the magical power of being able to control electricity.

Julie is the youngest of the three, and she is the peacemaker. Josslyn and Jade had always butted heads, and Julie was the one who would be stuck in the middle, constantly. After an accident that nearly took her life, she’s just now getting her confidence, and her strength back. She’s been gifted the power to see the future and to control fire.

Finally, Jasmine is the last of the four sisters. The oldest of the four, she was given up just after she was born. Living in one foster home after another, she never got adopted. She put herself through college and has landed an amazing job as an assistant to a lawyer who fights for children in the foster system. Now though, she’s found out that she has three sisters. Confused and angry, she wants nothing more than to shut them out, but that gets thrown out the window when she inherits a magical power. The ability to move things with her mind.

Where did you come up with the names in the story?

I knew what they looked like, and I knew that I wanted the names to start with a “J” so looked up names that started with the letter, “J” and found ones I liked and that I thought fit.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Everything! The best thing in the world for a writer, is starting with a single sentence, and just letting the words come to you without even thinking about it. Writing about each character, and what made each of them tick. Their fears. Their desires. Their passions. Writing about the magical powers, of course was fun too, and lets not forget about the demons and monsters. Those were fun to write about too!

How did you come up with the title of your first novel?

It just seemed to fit. A destiny, none of them knew even existed, until they got their powers. Destiny Awaits seems like a good fit, don’t you?

Who designed your book covers?

I’ve got a couple of designers I use. Kristyn from Drop Dead  Designs created the covers for Destiny Awaits and Crossroads. Tara from Fantasia Frog Designs created the cover for Once Upon a Hallow’s Eve. Molly from We Got You Covered Book Designs takes care of the interior formatting for me.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Nope. Not a thing! I absolutely love this book, and hope everyone will love it too.

Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

I always thought that books had to be a certain word-count, a certain page length, but in writing these last couple of books I realize that you can’t really map out the story. You have to let it come to you.

If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Oh man! I have thought of this! First, Jade, she’s my favorite character! I would love an actress like Jennifer Garner to play her. I’ve always loved her as an actress! Josslyn… I always thought that Bella Thorne would be a good fit for her. Julie… maybe Lucy Hale? And Jasmine… oh there are so many actresses I would love to play her part! There’s Ashley Benson, Blake Lively, even Hayden Panettiere.

Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

I’ve wanted nothing more than to be able to write. It’s been my passion, my dream for as long as I can remember, and being able to do it is a gift. Being able to share with the world my thoughts, my stories, is beyond anything I can even dare to explain. I write in multiple genres, and if you are a fan of the paranormal, you will love this book series!

What is your favorite part of this book and why?

I think my favorite part was when they encounter their first demon. It was really fun, how they interacted with one another, how they reacted to the situation, and of course coming up with the spell to vanquish the demon.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

Mostly, they are from my imagination. But every once in a while, I’ll be writing something from one of my character’s point of view and I’ll be like… wait… that sounds familiar! That sounds just like someone I work with!

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reins of the story?

Honestly, my characters seem to hijack the story. Sometimes I’ll be writing, not even thinking about what I’m writing and the next I’ll be like. Whoa. What? I didn’t mean to write that! Or, that’s not right. That doesn’t make sense, so then I’ll have to go in and fix it. It’s all a process!

What’s special about this book series?

What’s special about this book series, is that I don’t have it mapped out with how many books will be produced. It’s an ongoing book series, with so many elements and surprises waiting. Destiny Awaits, the first book in the series, about four sisters who find out they are witches, and who have inherited magical powers. It tells about their struggles adapting to their new lives, the new world they’ve been introduced to, and learning about the demonic world. Not to mention, the secret that they have another secret.

Once Upon a Hallow’s Eve is the second in the series, taking place on Halloween.  I’ve always wanted to write a Halloween book! Taking each of the sisters to a different fairytale, where they must right the wrongs or they’ll never make it back home.

Crossroads is the third, and most recent book in the series, where two of the girls take a trip up to heaven, while leaving the other two down on earth. But as soon as they leave, hell reigns down on earth, connecting the underworld to the real world, and one of the sisters has a choice to make. Good or evil.

This series is a must read for anyone who loves magic, the paranormal, demons, or even a good, comical story.

Have you written any other books that are not published?

No. All my works are published.
