Another great one from Amber Daulton. I like time travel romances, but the real kick for me is when the Hero or the Heroine comes to the present time. Which is the case in this adventure!
The Book is Timeless Beginning by Amber Daulton, a Contemporary/Time Travel Romance.
Leonora Harris fled her newly wedded husband’s home in Georgian England, 1725, and took shelter in a cave during a rainstorm. She woke up in a cold, barren land and a handsome stranger with a mechanical carriage offered her shelter.
Undercover American operative Rodger Ramsey never expected to find a runaway bride in the magnificent Salar de Uyuni. Assigned to Bolivia to investigate Communist activities, he just wrapped up his two-year mission in 1963 and followed his heart to the salt flats one last time.
Sparks flew and attraction sizzled. The lost, stubborn woman kicked his protective instincts into overdrive. Rodger took her home with him, determined to help her before he returned to the States, and Leonora flourished under his guidance. Their hearts intertwined. He wanted her, needed her, but could he truly love a woman who believed she jumped two hundred years in time?
Will they find a way to stay together, despite the obstacles between them, or will Leonora survive in this strange new world alone?
(Author’s Note – This is a prequel to Timeless Honor, a time travel romance with Rodger and Leonora’s granddaughter, but can be read as a standalone.)

Rodger, thank you for chatting with me today. Where are you from and what makes your story unique?
I’m from Seattle, Washington, but I moved to Washington D.C. after college. I’m a CIA agent, but few people know that. Since my mission is now over, I can tell you I’ve been investigating Communist activities in Bolivia for the past two years. I took an undercover job as an engineer for an oil company, but my supervisor in the States called me home because I sympathized too much with the labor workers. I’d just wrapped up all the little details to my assignment when I met Leonora Harris. My story is unique because of her. It’s not every day a man finds a runaway bride who claims she’s from the 1700s in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni, the vast salt flats the country is well known for. It’s 1963, after all. Who in their right mind would believe a cockamamie story like hers?
What made you choose the CIA as a career?
I have a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering and a second one in Foreign Languages. I could’ve done anything with those degrees, but I joined the agency to see the world and to make a difference for my country and our allies. The Cold War is looming, the USA is slowly freeing itself from McCarthyism, and there’s trouble all around the globe. I just want to do something good.
What is your biggest fear?
Before I met Leonora, my biggest fear was losing my job because my political beliefs didn’t fall in line with my superiors’.
With Leonora in my life, I’m worried I’ll lose her forever if she finds her way back to 1725. We still don’t know the specifics of how she time traveled and ended up in 1963, but we do know the “why” of it. There’s an old legend that states if a person stumbles upon a dormant time portal and that person’s soul mate is in another century, the portal will open and transport the person anywhere in the world, in any time, to find the soul mate. Leonora found me, fulfilling our soul mate destiny, and even though it’s very unlikely, I’m still worried she’ll disappear someday and I’ll never see her again.
What are some of the qualities that set you apart from other romance heroes?
Hero? Wow, you’re making me blush. *Red fills his cheeks.* I don’t like to show off or toot my own horn, but I do what’s needed when the time is right. Once I set my mind on something, nothing stops me. Unlike some of the heroes in those silly romance books my sister likes to read, I didn’t fall all over myself to make Leonora happy. I interrogated her at every possible opportunity. You see, I didn’t believe Leonora’s time traveling explanation at first. As I got to know her better, I fell head over heels in love with her and realized she truly did travel forward in time.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
My father always told me to trust my gut instinct. I never would’ve met Leonora had I not woken up early one morning and took a drive to the salt flats. Anxiety pulled me from my bed, and though I couldn’t explain it at the time, I now know my instinct told me to find Leonora.
Let’s talk about Leonora. She’s from a different time period than yours, so was it a struggle for her to adapt to her new environment?
Not a struggle, per se. She was definitely scared at first, but she calmed down once she realized what happened to her and once she made a friend in me. She adapted pretty well and relished in her new opportunities. I’ve never seen a more curious, excited woman as I told her women can choose whether they marry nowadays, at least in my home country. In 1725, her father forced her into an arranged marriage, and she grew up believing she had no other option in life than being a wife and mother, or being homeless on the streets. Yes, Leonora misses her family, but she’s more than grateful to have come to the present day.
What did you think the first time you saw Leonora?
This woman needed help. I mean, why would someone wear a vintage fluffy pink wedding dress in the middle of the salt flats? It just didn’t make sense. She ran like a scared little rabbit and actually slapped me when I tried to help her.
What do you like most about Leonora?
Her courage. The trauma she experienced before we met could’ve shattered a weaker person. A forced marriage, time travel through a mystical portal, the frigid cold of the salt flats, and the fear she felt while wandering around alone at night. Just thinking about it gives me cold chills.
When did you realize you were falling in love with Leonora?
I’m not sure. She did a lot of cute little things that turned my heart over, making me fall even deeper in love with her.
For example, when I showed her how to work the commode in my apartment, her eyes dazzled as though I presented her with a diamond ring. That’s not very romantic, but her strange reactions to modern conveniences and things I take for granted really bothered me. I kept thinking, “Is she crazy, or did she really time travel? What the hell am I going to do with her in either case?”
Besides that, she’s just a sweet, lovable person. I’m so happy to have met her.
Aside from the time difference, what other challenges did the two of you face as a couple?
My first-line supervisor expected me back in the States by the end of the month, and I couldn’t take Leonora with me. Since she’d arrived in Bolivia through a time portal, she obviously didn’t have any travel paperwork or proof of her existence. I couldn’t just abandon her—I love the woman—and I broke a few laws to secure her safety and her life at my side. I don’t regret my illegal actions, but my nerves nearly snapped a few times in the process.
Can readers expect to read more about you and Leonora, or has your story come to an end?
Yes, our story is technically over, but I plan to make a lifetime of memories with Leonora and never look back. Our granddaughter, Jaye, on the other hand, is about to meet the love of her life. In case you didn’t know, Timeless Beginnings is the prequel to Timeless Honor. Jaye accidentally travels through the same time portal Leonora did, and she arrives in my wife’s old hometown just ten years after Leonora left. And you’ll never believe whom Jaye falls in love with, but that’s another story…
