Every now and then, it’s nice to have a book made of short stories. It doesn’t ask the same effort from you, and it’s just so relaxing.
A Deadly Curiosities Collection by Gail Z. Martin, is a series made of two books, each with different short stories.
Trifles and Folly

An extension of the Deadly Curiosities book series.

Chatting with the author
Gail Z. Martin discovered her passion for science fiction, fantasy and ghost stories in elementary school. The first story she wrote at age fivewas about a vampire. Her favorite TV show as a preschooler was Dark Shadows. At age 14, she decided to become a writer. She enjoys attending science fiction/fantasy conventions, Renaissance fairs and living history sites. She is married and has three children, a Himalayan cat, a Maltese and a golden retriever.
Gail came by to tell us about Charleston.
Duels and Danger in Charleston by Gail Z. Martin
Charleston, South Carolina, is often called the ‘Holy City’ because of its hundreds of historic churches. But Charleston also has a dark side, known for its illegal—and often fatal—duels between wealthy aristocrats, a heritage that spawned Dueler’s Alley where ghosts of unlucky duelists are still said to wander.
Pirates once haunted the waterways around Charleston, making the city their home. The Old Jail is one of the most haunted sites in the city, and housed the state’s most infamous murderer, Lavinia Fisher, an innkeeper who killed her guests and disposed of their bodies.
With all this checkered history, Charleston is the perfect setting for my Deadly Curiosities urban fantasy series. Trifles and Folly/Trifles and Folly 2 are collections of short stories and novellas that take place in the same world as the novels, like extra ‘episodes’. They can be read either before or after the novels, and you don’t have to be familiar with the books to enjoy the stories.
Charleston is considered to be one of the most haunted cities in North America. Come read the stories, and take a walk on the wild side!
