So, okay. The Hero of this story has taken a vow of silence. And it doesn’t seem like a 20 minute, or a day, deal. Nope, it seems like a pretty solid, non-stop stance. Which, if it’s the case (and it does seem the case, since even in the extracts I read he never talked, and the Emperor, see extract later, tells the same thing), it must have been hell to write so kudos to Sadie for pulling it off!
Anyway, the book is Alien Retribution by Sadie Carter (Zerconian Warriors, #13) and it releases today in the Adult, Romance, Science Fiction genre.
Since the day his family was murdered, Boris has been obsessed with vengeance. The last thing he needs in his life is a mate. Besides, what sort of female would want a scarred, crippled male who has taken a vow of silence? Nope, there is no room in his life for a female.
Then he meets Nassir.
Beautiful. Fragile. Distant. He wants to break through the barriers she keeps erecting to discover the real woman inside. Which might be easier if he wasn’t constantly pulling her out of danger.
On the run, hunted, and alone, Nassir knows she only has herself to rely on.
Until Boris comes back into her life. The dark one. The silent, watchful bodyguard whose gaze heats her from the inside out and whose touch drives her insane.
If only she knew whether he truly cared about her or just enjoyed kissing her. Then she might find the sort of happiness she’d been searching for her whole life.
The King turned to the Emperor of Zerconia, a look of disbelief on his face. “This is your mate’s bodyguard? A male with one working arm?”
“Boris is an excellent bodyguard.” Zoey looked as serious as Nassir had ever seen her. She stepped in front of Boris.
“I wish to hear his recounting.”
“Boris doesn’t speak,” the Emperor explained.
King Rohan started to laugh then trailed off as he obviously caught sight of their serious faces. “Really? He does not speak?” He rattled something off to the Emperor in a language she did not know. The Emperor, a scowl on his face, spoke back.
“Um, you do know it’s rude to talk in another language in front of people who don’t understand it, right?” Zoey placed her hands on her hips, giving her mate a disgruntled look. The King looked startled, as though he wasn’t used to being chastised. Nassir had to turn away to hide a smile. As she turned, her gaze met Boris’s. Was that a twinkle of amusement in his eyes? He looked away so quickly that she couldn’t tell.
No, she must have imagined it. He was so serious all the time.
