today I have a story I simply liked, despite the green on the cover. But I haven’t read the book, so I don’t know if it has a reason. Anyways, the story is one I’d read.
So, here’s Madison Michael’s Our Love Is Here To Stay.
Can Love Transcend Time?
Thirty-year-old Matthew Herrington is weary of solo nights in strange cities. He is ready for a change. And that is exactly what he gets when he steps into Swing Night at The Green Mill and is instantly immersed in the sights and sounds of another era. Intrigued by the club’s authenticity, Matthew is enchanted when he meets Patty, a mixture of sexy and sweet who steals his heart.
Patty Dennison has never met a man like Matthew in all her twenty-one years. A sophisticated man, he stands out from the usual Swing Night crowd. He is self-assured, smart, charming, and handsome as hell, even if he is a lousy dancer. Once he takes her in his arms, Patty is more than willing to give him a few dance lessons along with her heart.
Repeated missed dates and unanswered phone calls strain the relationship and frustrate the pair. But unraveling their mystery exposes an impossible scenario, one that will torment their sanity and test their love.
How can they make their fairytale last? Can love transcend time?
Today with me, I have the pleasure to talk with the Hero, Matthew Herrington.
Hi Matthew, and thank you for being here! Have you ever had a nickname?
Only when my brother couldn’t pronounce it properly, but that ended quickly.
I am a cyber-security consultant, and a very good one at that.
Are you happy with your life?
It has had its ups and down but overall, I am happy with the choices I have made and many experiences I have had.
Would you change something about it?
There was a time when I might have wished I quit my job and walked away from my life, but now I understand that I was meant to choose this path.
Have you ever thought your life would be made into a book?
Never; although my experiences have been very unique.
Your thoughts on love.
I believe that love can change your whole life in a moment, in a glance, and when it does, you should give in to it.
What is your greatest extravagance?
I think my greatest extravagance is music.
Which talent would you like to have?
I would definitely like to be a better dancer. I have improved, but not enough.
The quality you most like in a woman.
I love that combination of sweet innocence and sexy in a woman. Today, women are very powerful, so when I am confronted with softness hiding that strength, I am intrigued.
What trait you most despise in general, men or women?
I hate rudeness. There is no excuse for it.
On what occasions do you lie?
I try never to lie. I am bad at it so I usually get caught.
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what would you like to be?
Me, but born almost a century earlier. Then again…
What kind of impression do you make on people when they first meet you? Is that accurate?
I have that California surfer look, which is accurate in that I am from California, but I am no surfer. I am a geek through and through. I don’t look like the stereotypical nerd, I guess.
Worst and best thing that happened to your life.
What is the worst thing you’ve ever done and why?
Leave Chicago for California knowing that I was risking everything with the girl I loved. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I was sadly mistaken.
What is in your refrigerator right now?
Bags of lettuce, gourmet salad dressing and cheap beer.
Chicago style hot dogs
Describe the perfect night out.
A good dinner and Jazz music in an intimate setting.
How about the perfect vacation?
Somewhere warm, Hawaii maybe, where I can lay on the beach, go hiking and biking and be with the woman I love. I can also happily vacation right here in the Bay area with day trips to Sausalito or wine country, great food, great music and a night alone with the woman I love.
What would you change about Patty?
I would make her more accessible. Read Our Love is Here to Stay and you will understand.
What do you like about her?
Pretty much everything. She is smart, funny, curious about life, supportive; everything you could ask for in a partner. Oh yeah, did I mention that she’s beautiful too?
Tell us your first thought and impression when you first met.
When my eyes locked with Patty’s I felt like I had come home. I felt a certainty that we belonged together. There was an openness to her. She was approachable but more. I knew I would like her instantly.
Your obituary would be …
family man, music lover and brilliant cyber-security consultant who saved companies and countries from dangerous hackers.
What would you do if:
someone tried to blackmail you. How easy or difficult would it be?
I have actually been concerned about this because of my line of work. I would call the FBI.
You arrive home to find your door unlocked and slightly ajar, and you’re sure you locked it on your way out.
Grab the baseball bat from the trunk of my car, call 911 and head inside to bash a head in.
You wake up to find a poisonous spider on your pillow next to his/ her head.
I hate spiders so I imagine I would have a heart attack on the spot.
Someone else takes credit for his/her work.
If they did it once, I would let them, then take them aside for a tough conversation. If they did it repeatedly, I would fire them.
A natural disaster traps you on your way to an important destination.
I would say it has happened, in a way. Persevere as long as I can.
Someone told you today that you are destined to fulfill a great prophecy.
I would find it hard to believe. I am just your average guy who has lived an un-average life.
What bill do you hate paying the most?
Who likes paying any bill? I guess the mortgage. Have you seen housing prices in San Francisco?
Why did you choose the shirt you have on?
My girl says it brings out the color in my eyes.
Thoughts on gas prices?
They are outrageous in California, especially compared to 1950.
First thought when the alarm goes off in the in the morning is–
Time to save the world.
What errand/chore do you despise the most?
I am not fond of changing diapers.
Up early or sleep in?
Is marriage outdated?
Not at all. I want to proclaim my love to the world, settle down and be a devoted family man.
What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
Charlie Parker, “The Bird”, the best in the world of jazz.
Thank you for being here with me, Matthew!
A waitress came to take it off his hands. “Another?” she queried and he nodded agreement, placing a crumpled dollar on her tray. “Too much,” she told him shaking her head no. Matthew was surprised by her response but the tray was covered with loose change so he removed his bill and left the equivalent in quarters. Everything was so inexpensive but the server still needed to make a decent living.
She gave him a grateful smile and turned to move to her next customer, carefully balancing her tray above the heads of the young people around her. In the process, she nudged Matthew slightly causing him to lose his footing and fall gently against another body. Turning to apologize he found himself staring into the clearest, lightest blue eyes he had ever seen. He couldn’t look away.
“Sorry,” he mumbled when he finally regained his composure.
“That’s okay,” she replied with a quick, bright smile. She was lovely, in a wholesome girl next door way. She had her blond hair pulled into a ponytail that curled like a hair product ad, clear-skinned cheeks that were pink with warmth and perhaps exertion, and a curvy body displayed under a bright red sweater and a flared plaid skirt.
Matthew felt his mouth go dry and his palms get sweaty. She did something to him, this fresh faced woman that he found incredibly sexy. Her red lipstick was a slash of bright color mimicking the red of the sweater. Until this moment, bright red lipstick screamed “tough broad, stay away” to Matthew but on this girl it whispered “come hither.”
“Matthew,” he squeaked out, extending his hand to shake hers. Thinking twice about it, he retracted his arm, running his palm against his pants swiftly, and hopefully surreptitiously, before he extended his hand again.
“Patty,” she responded, placing her soft fingers in his large palm. She shook like a girl. After all the bone-breaking handshakes Matthew had endured across the globe, this limp, fingers-only shake surprised him. She looked athletic, not tough but toned, and not sickly pale like most Chicagoans in winter. The handshake didn’t match the image and normally would have bothered him. Nothing about Patty bothered him. Everything about her bothered him.
